Need Better Boundaries with Mom?

  • Feeling guilty for saying no?
  • Trying to set boundaries but getting pushback?
  • Envious of friends who have great relationships with their mothers?
  • Self-confidence taken a hit because of frequent criticism?
  • Feeling like nothing you do is ever good enough?
  • Walking on eggshells?

If you’re feeling lost or overwhelmed in your relationship with your mother, know that you’re not alone.

It’s a difficult situation and we understand the challenge of trying to honor and respect your mother, but also live your life as an adult with your own values, beliefs, and goals.

Many women are in the same place, experiencing the same very real struggles you face—feelings of guilt, anxiety, and stress that arise from trying to navigate a relationship where boundaries may be blurred or disregarded.

We see many women who may feel conflicted: you love your mother and want to respect, honor, and cherish her. You acknowledge and appreciate the sacrifices your mother has made and the positive aspects of your upbringing. However, the boundary issues are weighing heavily on you and you need solutions.

Whether it’s feeling criticized, controlled, or overwhelmed, you often find yourself stuck between wanting to maintain a close connection with your mother and needing to protect your own mental and emotional health. This is not a sign of weakness or failure; it’s a natural and human response to a complex situation.

As counselors, we're not here to crticize or blame mothers. We know lots of great mothers who are kind, loving, supportive, and have great relationships with their adult children.

However, we also acknowledge the reality that many people face challenges in navigating their relationships with their mothers.

We're here because we want to help you navigate that relationship in a way that respects and protects your life - your spiritual, emotional, and physical health.

How We'll Help

We'll explore the history of the relationship, identify positive aspects and build on those. We'll also explore themes of false guilt, unrealistic expectations, generational patterns, and other behaviors that have contributed to the relationship.

You'll have the opportunity to explore your feelings, gain clarity about your situation, and create strategies to put boundaries in place.

We'll help you find solutions that work for you.

  • Help you learn how a healthy mother-daughter relationship looks and feels so you can easily identify unhealthy dynamics.
  • Empower and support you to set boundaries with kindness and compassion.
  • Help you process your emotions, rebuild your self-confidence, and move forward with peace—within yourself and your relationships.

You can redefine the relationship on your terms while maintaining the respect and love you hold for her. We’re here to guide and support you on that journey.

We’ve had the honor of helping so many women turn their struggles into powerful success stories—and we’d love for you to be one of them.💜

Online Counseling

Great news! We are available anywhere in North Carolina.  Virtual telehealth sessions make it easier than ever to access the support you need from the comfort of your home.

Benefits of telehealth:

  • Reduced Barriers: Telehealth removes geographical barriers, making counseling accessible to individuals in rural or remote areas who may not have easy access to in-person services.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Clients can schedule appointments at times that fit their busy schedules, reducing the need for travel and time off from work or childcare.
  • Comfort and Familiarity: Telehealth allows clients to receive counseling from the comfort of their own homes, which can be a more comfortable and familiar environment than a therapist's office.
  • Reduced Transportation Costs: Telehealth eliminates the need for travel, saving clients time and money on transportation, parking, and childcare.
  • Enhanced Privacy: Clients can choose a secure and confidential space for their therapy sessions, promoting openness and honesty.
  • Reduced Stigma: Telehealth can help reduce the stigma associated with seeking mental health support, as clients can receive care from the privacy of their own homes.
  • Secure Platforms: Telehealth platforms ensure privacy and confidentiality through secure and encrypted communication.

Frequently Asked Questions

Counseling is an investment you make in your health and well-being.  For most clients, the return on that investment is exponential in regards to their improved emotional, mental, and spiritual health.

Sessions can be purchased individually or in a package of three sessions.

$150 - one session

$350 - three sessions

There are flexible options to help manage the cost:

  • FSA/HSA Accounts: Many clients use their Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Accounts (HSA) to cover counseling fees, as mental health services are often eligible expenses.

  • Credit Cards: Payment can be made using credit cards, offering the convenience of managing the cost over time.

  • Budgeting: Setting aside funds for counseling as part of your monthly budget can make sessions more manageable.

  • Discretionary Spending Adjustments: Temporarily reducing spending on non-essential items like dining out, entertainment, or shopping can free up resources for your care.

Investing in counseling is an investment in yourself—a step toward healing, growth, and the life you deserve. If you have questions or need further guidance on payment options, we’re here to support you.

*A $25 retainer fee is paid prior to your first session. The retainer fee will be applied to your first session payment.

After the first session if we agree it's a good fit, subsequent session fees are:

  • $150 for one session, or
  • $350 for three sessions

Sessions can be paid for with a credit/debit card. HSA/FSA cards may also be used.

Your first session will last for 50-65 minutes. Subsequent sessions will last for 50 minutes.

Your counselor will work with you to connect you with a counselor who may be a better fit for your needs.

At our practice, we’ve chosen not to accept insurance to prioritize the needs and autonomy of our clients. Here’s why:

When insurance is involved, it often dictates what is considered "medically necessary," which can limit the scope of counseling. Additionally, insurance typically requires a diagnosis of a mental health disorder to approve coverage, even if you’re simply seeking support for personal growth, life transitions, or improving relationships. This can feel restrictive or even stigmatizing for clients who may not feel a formal diagnosis is appropriate for their situation.

By offering self-pay services, we ensure that you remain in control of your counseling journey—not an insurance provider. This allows for a more flexible, personalized experience, as we can focus entirely on your unique goals, progress, and timeline, without being confined to the limitations set by insurance policies. Sessions can be tailored to your needs, whether that’s short-term support or longer-term care.

Moreover, self-pay provides greater privacy, as your records won’t be shared with insurance companies. This gives you an added layer of confidentiality and peace of mind.

Ultimately, this approach allows us to create an empowering environment where your well-being is the top priority.
